The Cheney girls’ basketball team opened the 2014 Great Northern League season with a much-needed win at Deer Park. The Lady Hawks, led by the scoring of Shyann Morton and Kayla Lemelin, blew open a 7-5 game after one quarter by outscoring the Stags (1-8, 0-1) 27-10 over the next 16 minutes en route to the win.
Morton led Cheney with 14 points, with Lemelin adding 10 and Kendyl Cone nine.
Cheney went 1-1 over the holiday break at the West Valley Tournament, Dec. 27-28. The Lady Hawks opened with a win over Bonners Ferry, Idaho, statistics not available at press time, and finished with a 56-33...
