Boys swimming resumes Jan. 9, versus Prosser, Grandview
The sound of splashing filled the air at the EWU swimming pool as a group of men swam back and forth.
From the sidelines, boys swimming head coach Jennifer Hochwalt shouts,” Almost done guys, keep it up. This is our last set.”
The Cheney High School boys swimming team is getting ready for their meet against Prosser and Grandview, Jan. 9, 3 p.m. at the EWU pool.
Prior to winter break, the team’s last meet was against Selah. It has been almost a month since their last meet and the team has spent winter break training.
Hochwalt mentioned that the team was working on increasing the yards they practice in the pool and the intensity of their workouts. She mentioned that this meet could determine if the team needs to have more or less intense workouts during practice.
“Wait and see where we are,” Hochwalt said.
Hochwalt said she would like to see the team get their best times at this meet. She added that Prosser has a similar amount of kids and it will be a competitive meet.
After the meet, Hochwalt will have the team focus on their events during practice.
Hochwalt said she would like to the team to be in the top three at districts. One swimmer has already qualified for state and two team members are almost qualified. Scott Nadeau qualified for state in the 200 Individual medley after beating the state-qualifying time of 2.12 seconds for two consecutive meets.
Hochwalt added said she would like to see two relay teams qualify for state.
