Cheney's Chet's Flowers named one of top 1,000 florists in nation

Second such award for owners, first with floral partner FTD

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, perhaps even a bit sweeter when they come from the recently honored Chet's Flowers of Cheney.

A month ago a package arrived at the door of this local shop containing an award from the international flower delivery service FTD, Chet's had been selected as one of the top 1,000 florists out of the over 40,000 national florists and floral shops that partner with FTD.

"We'd been having a rough day," said Becky Jeffries who runs the shop along with her mother, Joy Dahl. "We were shocked."

Chet's was purchased around five years ago and has partnered with FTD for the past three. The plaque which name's them a "Top 1000 Florist" arrived without any other notice from FTD that Chet's was even being considered.

Jeffries considers this award "very impressive" which is an understatement to their abilities and quality of work, considering Chet's is grouped with Spokane's florists.

"When you throw in Spokane," said Jeffries of her shop's ability to be recognized in a large pool, "That's pretty cool I'd say."

Being in the top 1,000 is not a new experience for Jeffries and Dahl.

Within their first year of buying in Cheney, Chet's Flowers was recognized as a "Top 1000 Florist" with then partner Teleflora in 2007.

It is easy to understand the praise these women are receiving, Dahl has been a florist for over 30 years and has been one of 1,500 accredited florists with the American Institute of Floral Designers since 2001.

Jeffries and Dahl's talent for their work and dedication to their customers is solidified while placing an order for a customer that continues to order a rose bouquet arrangement through Chet's every year for his wife, even though he now lives on the other side of the state.

Jeffries will eventually put this recognition on their website so customers can have even more confidence when shopping with Chet's but she "just gets busy," which is a great sign for this family business.

Not all families would be able to work so closely together, that is not the case for Joy and Becky.

"It works well, we do it well," says Jeffries of working with her mother.

"We just work well together for mother and daughter," Dahl said.
