Bud Lloyd Nokleby
Bud Lloyd Nokleby (age 81) Cheney resident of 24 years, finished his earthly journey Nov. 29, 2013. Bud was born September 19, 1932 in Sedro Woolley, Wash. to Lloyd and Verlie (Neal). He had 2 sisters: Joanne Bithell of Pendleton, Ore. (deceased) and Nancy Strippling of Mount Vernon, Wash. (deceased). He also had a brother Jerry Nokleby (Maureen) of Anacortes, Wash.
Bud spent his childhood in the Mount Vernon-Burlington area. He loved participating in the school safety patrol. With the help of the Washington State Patrol he organized a safety patrol at Burlington High School, because it was located on Old Highway 99. He also worked, danced and raced at the Burlington Roller Rink.
In his teens he signed up in the Navy but was given an honorable discharge for medical reasons. He also spent 1-2 years in Firlands Sanatorium with tuberculosis of the spine. He married Arlene Sparks and they had three daughters: Becky Preheim (Erik) of Anacortes, Verna Mae Fohn (Jim) of Missouri and Linda Sauve of Alaska.
Bud graduated from an electronic program at EdisonTech and was soon hired by Seattle City Light as an appliance repairman. He married Sally Boyd and helped raise two stepsons: Alvin and James. On Dec. 15, 1972 he married the love of his life, Judy (Labish-Theissen). Her children Kathy Bernier of Spokane and Brian Theissen of Seattle accepted Bud as their Dad.
In 1989 Bud retired from Seattle City Light. He had worked in a city program that serviced senior citizens and only charged them the price of parts. It was Bud's plan to do the same when he moved to Cheney, but he was deterred by illness.
Bud and Judy continued to travel about in their 28-foot trailer and later a small pop-up trailer. One of their favorite trips was with three other members of St. Rose Parish to the Spanish Missions in California. Their last and maybe most fun trip was 10 days in Canada with 3 of their grandchildren. Bud's family and friends will miss him, but we are all relieved that he is now on a new pain free journey.
We thank Spokane Hospice for their wonderful support during Bud's last six months. A memorial service will be held in January. Cheney Funeral Chapel, Cheney, Wash. in charge of arrangments. Online guestbook at cheneyfuneral.com.
