Book club talks ‘Hedy’s’

The true story of a movie star who was also a brilliant inventor is the November selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the library.

The book is “Hedy’s Folly: The Life and Breakthrough Inventions of Hedy Lamarr, the Most Beautiful Woman in the World” by Richard Rhodes. While working as an actress in Hollywood during World War II, Lamar and composer George Antheil, invented a radio signal to guide torpedoes to German warships that were sinking Allied vessels. The basic technology was later used to develop modern inventions.

Feed Cheney is Nov. 25

The next Feed Cheney dinner and grocery distribution will be Monday, Nov. 25 at the Wren Pierson Community Center, 615 Fourth St. from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The dinner and groceries are free and available to all. The clothing bank will be open from 5-6:30 p.m.  For more information email to feedcheney@gmail.com or call 324-1659.

Medicare seminar is Nov. 22

Medicare open enrollment has begun and Premera Blue Cross is educating seniors about their Medicare options. For seniors interested in Medicare Advantage plans, Premera is hosting more than 80 enrollment seminars across Washington.

The Cheney seminar is Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 111 Betz Road.

These plans are new to the market for 2014 and include prescription coverage, free gym membership and members-only savings on products and services. Premera experts will be onsite to answer questions and provide recommendations.
