Jois's leads Eagles in opener

The youngsters played like veterans Sunday afternoon at Reese Court, not because they wanted to, but because they had to.

And the senior-less Eastern Washington University men’s basketball team used the 22 points, 11 rebounds from sophomore forward Venky Jois for an 87-58 basketball victory over Pacific University in the Eagles’ season opening game.

Jois, the “Freshman of the Year” in the Big Sky Conference a year ago, added five assists, three blocked shots and three steals. He had 16 points and eight rebounds in the second half as Eastern’s 15-point halftime lead turned into a 29-point runaw...
