Holland MWC Freshman of the Year

Former Ceney High School cross country star Sanne Holland was named the Mountain West Conference's Freshman of the Year for her time in the conference's cross country championships last Friday, Nov. 1. Holland turned in a time of 22 minutes, 51.20 seconds to finish 31st on the six-kilometer course at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to help her Colorado State University team to a third-place finish overall behind Boise State and conference champion New Mexico in women's competition.

Holland was the Rams fifth runner of nine on the varsity. She is one of four true freshman on the squad, and the first Ram to be named the conference's Freshman of the Year since Allison Gohl in 2007.

"Sanne Holland being Freshman of the Year bodes well for the future," Rams head coach Art Siemers said in a news release.

As a Blackhawk Holland placed third at 2A state competition as a freshman and sophomore, second her senior season and fourth in 2011 as a junior – the year the Cheney girls captured their first state title.
