George Hageage
Eastern Washington University Women's Soccer head coach George Hageage will step down from his post at the conclusion of his contract Nov. 30, 2013, announced by athletic director Bill Chaves Monday, Oct. 28.
Assistant coach Julio Morales will lead the program on an interim basis while a national coaching search is conducted.
"We appreciate Coach Hageage's 14 years of service to our women's soccer program, the university and the greater Spokane community," Chaves said in a news release. Hageage's 2013 team struggled with a 1-8 Big Sky Conference record and was 3-15 overall. The Eagles scored just 12 goals in those 18 games and finished the season on a five-game losing streak, scoring just twice.
The Eagles should return a solid core of experienced players for the 2014 season, headlined by the program's all-time leading scorer in junior Cassie Black who led the team in scoring with four goals.
The longest tenured women's soccer coach in the Big Sky, Hageage guided Eastern's program for the last 14 seasons, winning Big Sky Coach of the Year honors in 2004. In his previous 13 years at EWU, he produced 85 All-Big Sky players and saw the program earn 12 NSCAA Team Academic Awards.
Hageage's record at Eastern was 63-149-16.
