Cheney High School senior MacKenna Jones will unveil her Girl Scout Gold Award project at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake this weekend.
Months of hard work to finalize the Fallen Soldier statue will conclude this Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. in a ceremony. Jones has worked on the project for over a year, speaking with local companies and soliciting donations to help fund the project.
The statue will be placed in front of the administration building’s flagpole, easily viewable for those who visit the cemetery.
At the heart of the project, Jones said in an interview this summer, is veterans. With the project, she seeks to honor the sacrifices others made for the country.
Jones is in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets program, which is a youth program similar to the Air Force’s Junior ROTC program. She is also a marching band member and volunteers time with the Special Olympics.
