Letters to the Editor
The election of John Taves would bring a much-needed, new voice to the Cheney City Council. Appointed to fill the vacant position following the death of Mike McKeehan, John has demonstrated that he does his homework, can debate the issues and make wise decisions.
John brings to the office 35 years of leadership and executive experience with Bonneville Power Administration, including chief, National Environmental Policy Act Compliance staff. He has a PhD in sociology from Washington State University and was an assistant professor in the department of Sociology and Urban Studies at the University of Texas, Arlington. His education and experience has prepared him well for dealing with environmental and social challenges facing Cheney in the 21st century.
I share John’s greatest concerns; Emergency services, school safety, the needs of seniors and physically limited, improving public transportation and addressing the effects of rail traffic at grade crossings.
John has demonstrated his commitment to Cheney when he spoke at the Sept. 25 public scoping meeting on the impacts of the Millennium Bulk Terminals- Longview, Wash. would have on our city.
