For your contemplation: The Church is one body. Paul writes, “We were baptized into one body in a single Spirit.” But this one body has many parts. As Paul says, “If they were all the same part, how could it be a body? As it is, the parts are many but the body is one” (Corinthians 12:19). Not everyone can be everything. Often we expect one member of the body to fulfill a task that belongs to others. But the hand cannot be asked to see nor the eye to hear. Together we are Christ’s body, each of us with a part to play in the whole (see l Corinthians 12:27). Let’s be grateful for our limited but real part in the body-Henri J.M. Nouwen.

St. Paul's is located at 625 C St. on the edge of EWU campus.

United Church of Christ

Although the Afterthoughts bluegrass concert Sunday, Oct. 13, is not a church function, the United Church of Christ is honored to host it. The concert offers a delightful chance to donate to the Shriners Hospital Endowment fund. After the band’s 3 p.m. set, which features award-winning musicians, the audience will enjoy refreshments in the fellowship hall.

All are welcome to the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service led by pastor David Krueger-Duncan in the sanctuary located at 423 N. Sixth St.

School-age children are invited to go to classes after the children’s minutes or attend the rest of the service with their parents. Children under five may go to the nursery from 9:45-11:15 a.m.

We’re a friendly church; please join us to share fellowship, discussion and snacks after the Sunday service. Also, two other opportunities include the men’s breakfast on the second and fourth Sundays at 7:45 a.m. in the Willow Springs restaurant upstairs, or during the “Lunch Bunch” potluck at the church at noon on the second Thursday of the month.

United Methodist Church

Please plan to worship with us Sunday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Terry Hall will lead the service. Christian education classes for all ages are at 9 a.m. All are welcome to join us in worship and in study.

At 6 p.m. Sunday there is a second worship service opportunity. The service is conversational in style and open to all.

Sunday evening the adult fellowship will gather at the home of Ken and Edith Dickson. The potluck dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and have a fun October costume theme. Cheney United Methodist Church is located at 204 Fourth St.
