Lawrence wants to provide voice for south AH citizens

Steve Lawrence is the incumbent in the only challenged race for a position on the Airway Heights City Council.

Lawrence is running once again for Position 2 on the City Council to provide a voice for residents on the southern side of Airway Heights.

“There’s no representation and apparently no one is rising up this time,” he said.

He also said the City Council has been a productive one over the last four years, and the current makeup has made great achievements this year. The opinions are diverse and the representation is varied throughout different areas of the city.

“We get along great and everybody has a different look on everything we do here, so it’s kind of neat,” he said. “It helps give a different perspective.”

Among his list of priorities in the next term includes resolving the ongoing housing situation for city residents living in Accident Potential Zone Two, leading to Fairchild Air Force Base.

“That’s about my main thing right now,” he said.

That issue ties directly to a challenge he believes the city faces in the next few years. A number of different government entities have stepped up to exercise their opinion in finding suitable alternative housing for those residents. Lawrence said streamlining the opinions to one cohesive direction would prove most beneficial.

“I think there are too many entities trying to attack the problem from different angles,” Lawrence said.
