Lauren E. McKay

Lauren E. McKay of Cheney, Wash. passed away Sept. 30 in Spokane, Wash. at the age of 64. Lauren was born in Kansas City, Mo. Oct. 30th, 1948. 

The family moved to Washington and he was a graduate of Medical Lake High School in 1966. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He met his wife of 43 years while stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. 

After marriage the couple moved to Medical Lake where Lauren worked in construction as a mechanic and was a volunteer with the Medical Lake Fire Department before he was hired at the Cheney Fire Department in 1976.

The family moved to Cheney where he served the Fire Department for 26 years. Lauren retired in 2002. 

In retirement Lauren enjoyed working at the Brown Ranch and hunting, fishing and camping with friends. He was also a member and past president of the Cheney Rodeo Association.

He is survived by his wife Joan McKay; children Shannon (Karl) and Shaun (Jeriann); grandchildren, Zachary Aris, Melissa Aris and Hunter McKay.

He was preceded in death by his mother Frances M. McKay and his stepfather Ira W. McKay. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice House of Spokane in his memory.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the Cheney Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens cemetery. An online guest book can be found at cheneyfuneral.com.
