Howard Daniel Cameron

Howard Daniel Cameron, age 66, passed away July 28 at home, doing what he loved the most – grooming his horse.

Known to his friends as “Dan,” he was born June 22 in Kellogg, Idaho to Howard and Josephine Cameron. Dan’s sister Betty Ann and both parents preceded him in death.

Dan graduated from Kellogg High School and served in the Marines. In 1970, he married Sandy (now Edlund) and had one child, Shannon.

Dan worked for the Idaho Department of Highways as a surveyor and at Bunker Hill Company in Kellogg, where he was a certified weigh-master and overhead crane operator. Dan moved to Colorado where he worked for 14 years as a heavy-equipment operator and cook. He moved to Cheney in 1993 and cooked at Willow Springs, Showies (now Eagle’s Pub), and lastly at Eastern Washington University.

Dan retired in 2010 and became ranch foreman for Nan Warren, finding the home he had long searched for. He was a member of the Ft. Star Confederate Cavalry. Dan was a loyal and faithful friend. He enjoyed music, photography, and astronomy and had a green thumb and a remarkable way with animals. He was also an excellent drummer, who played in a number of bands when he lived in North Idaho.

Dan is survived by his horse Boone, his dogs Blue and Frodo, his cat Jeb, and his close friends Nan Warren, Scott Wilbanks and Charles Gassett.
