The Cheney Care Center’s planned senior apartment project hit a snag when it was learned that the city had not yet signed off on the project’s traffic plan. The project needed access to North Sixth Street that had to conform to private road width regulations.

An underestimation of the total costs for the SR 904 safety project put some parts of the project in jeopardy. The original $250,000 cost estimate had risen to just over $336,000, but the city offered to pay the difference.

“Everyone that wants a skate park raise your hands,” Medical Lake Mayor Jim Hill asked those in attendance at a recent council meeting. Nearly every hand went up in a chamber packed with supporters, and who added encouragement to the city to move forward with the project.

Cheney Mayor Tom Trulove emerged from a meeting with the region’s other mayors and elected officials saying the event presented “nothing new.”

More than 100 team members were signed up to recruit a goal of over 500 members for the new Eagle Athletic Association, a new sports booster association designed to help raise money for EWU’s recently approved move to NCAA Division I athletics.
