Inge Albrecht

Albrecht, Ingeborg Magariter “Inge” born March 14, 1930 in Berlin, Germany passed away July 20 in Spokane, Wash. at the age of 83.

She was born to Ernst and Lena Balz. In 1954, Inge traveled by boat from Germany to the United States where she was greeted by the love of her life Hans Albrecht. Hans had traveled to the U.S. in 1952 to create a better life for him and Inge.

They drove cross country from New York City to their home in Seattle where they wed on Sept. 4, 1954. There, Inge gave birth to their two sons Gary and Ralph. The family moved to Omak, Wash. in the summer of 1968, where they spent 34 years, before moving to the Cheney area in 2002.

Inge had a passion for gardening, swimming, her dogs and dancing. She was adored by her family and husband of 58 years. To her grandchildren she was known as Oma. She loved telling stories of growing up in Germany and the hardships of being evacuated during WWII to Czechoslovakia.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Hans Albrecht; two sons Gary (Rebecca) Albrecht of Cheney, Ralph (Michelle) Albrecht of Camano Island, Wash.; granddaughters Devin (Chris) Moan, Heidi (Evan) Dorrance, Cassie Kruse, Treysia Geer, Katelynn Geer; great-grandchildren Gillian Dorrance and Westley Tupling. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Inge’s name to the Spokane Humane Society. P.O. Box 6247, Spokane, WA 99217. An online guest book is available at cheneyfuneral.com.
