CHS students recognized for skills in national competition

Cheney High School 2013 graduates Jessica Leong and Devonna Hoskins recently participated in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) 2013 National Leadership Conference. They received a silver medal in Interior Design and were honored at a session at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., July 11. Approximately 3,600 students competed in STAR Events.

In the Interior Design event participants apply interior design skills learned in Family and Consumer Sciences courses to design interiors that meet the living space needs of clients. Hoskins and Leong are both going into a science based career path, but will have a well-designed work environment and home.

STAR events teach students a great deal about researching, organizing and presenting information to others. FCCLA’s STAR Events are based on the belief that every student benefits from competition, evaluation, and recognition. Team events stress cooperation as the basis of success.
