Taco truck delivers authentic Mexican taste to Cheney streets

Of Cabbages and Kings

Jonas Lopez

The folks at Patty’s Taco left to right are Jonas Lopez, Gladys Ramirez, Daimy Leon, Luisa Ramirez and Patty Pineda.

Have you seen the Patty’s Tacos truck parked beside First Street in Cheney? The owner, Patty Pineda is from Mexico and is in charge of Patty’s Tacos truck No. 1 and truck No. 3. This is a family owned business. Truck 1 is in Spokane on Division Street. Truck 3 is in Cheney. Truck 1 has been in the Spokane area for five years. Two cousins in the family, Daimy Leon and Gladys Ramirez were in charge the day I visited. The hours for customers at both trucks are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Patty’s Tacos family offers a wide selection of food. How about tacos, burritos, quesadillas enchiladas, and home made tortillas? Keep reading: huarache and sopez.

Patty Pineda said, “The food is not spicy unless the customer wants it that way. Salsa is free. We make a special big order like tamale. You’ll find us on Facebook and Instagram.

The phone number for orders to go in the Cheney area is 509-362-1096. Patty’s Tacos takes credit cards and also does catering. Patty Pineda said, “We’ve catered a thousand people. We cater weddings and have one coming up soon. We also cater birthdays, graduation parties, and other occasions. We travel to parties even in Idaho.”

Cheney’s Patty’s Tacos has three people to cook and prep. Gladys Ramirez was the cashier the day I visited and gave the orders out. Usually there are two people working in the truck. Sometimes they are so busy they need to give orders as fast as they can.

Patty Pineda said, “People are getting to know us. Business is good here.”
