Two reasons why I love Cheney
Reason No. 1: At 9:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, I remembered that I forgot to pick up my daughter’s bike at Mark and Marissa Sheldon’s shop, Bicycle Time, before 6 p.m. Sydney, friend Kali and I were leaving the next morning at 6 a.m. to catch a ferry to San Juan’s Orcas Island.
Panic struck, but I hesitantly dialed their home phone number. Marissa answered, I apologized profusely, and she said, “Oh no problem, Barb, we are still up. Come on in and Mark will open the shop.” We had a wonderful chat in Bicycle Time late into the night. As I drove away, bike tucked into my little car along with a bag of goodies to deliver to their son, Mario, in Bellingham, I realized what a gem of a little town we have.
Reason No. 2: I know I am not alone in my heartfelt appreciation for the gorgeous flowers in the lovely, large hanging baskets adorning Main Street. From humble beginnings when Pathways first hung the baskets to the city now taking full responsibility, the flowers bring warmth and friendliness to all.
What a memorable signature a small town can offer through flowers. Thanks to all those who make these personal connections happen.
