Mayfest is only made possible by an engaged community

Letters to the Editor

How delightful to again experience a fun family event in downtown Cheney. Following the success of the first annual Winterfest, it was decided to revive the annual Mayfest celebration, held this year on May 11. Monies raised by these and future such events support local charities.

We are fortunate to have people in our community who wish to revitalize our historic downtown with activities such as these. There were many businesses, vendors and volunteers who participated, but I would like to especially thank Jason Williams of Owl Pharmacy, Dori Byrd of Holiday Inn Express and Douglas and Danielle LeBar of the Mason Jar for organizing these events.

Thanks also go to Allan Gainer for serving as master of ceremonies, Steve Emtman for providing the tent and Debbie Anderson and Aly Avey of Against the Grain for organizing all the participants. Special thanks go to Wayne Dow of Dow Landscape Materials not only for providing the stage for the musicians but, belatedly, for providing all the burn barrels and requisite fencing for February that gave Winterfest such a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone. Your efforts are much appreciated.
