Cardinal boy's doubles make it to state

King and his partner Hunter Barr advanced to state this weekend in Yakima after their third place finish.

Medical Lakes’s second-seeded doubles team earned a trip to the state tournament in Yakima this weekend emerging as the No. 3 team in the 1A/2B/1B district championships played at West Valley High School in Spokane Valley.

Hunter Barr and Anton King finished third at the tournament to Lind/Ritzville/Sprague following an opening round 7-5, 6-2 victory. They lost to St. Georges 0-6, 6-7 (7-9). The boys defeated Chewelah 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 and St. Georges 6-1, 6-0 to secure third place.

“The boys really stepped up Saturday as the matches were win or be done,” head coach Justin Blayne said. a“They played their best tennis all year, minimizing unforced errors and putting pressure on their opponents.”
