ML girls improve to 6-0 in NEA tennis

Medical Lake’s girls’ tennis team improved to a perfect 6-0 in the Northeast A League following a 4-1 win over Riverside last Tuesday. The Cards completed their NEA schedule this past Tuesday at Lakeside.

“After the previous week, last week seemed downright low key,” head coach Dawn Eliassen wrote in an email. Medical Lake had come off a week with three matches in five days.

Rachael Hansen claimed the win at No. 2 singles 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. “It took Rachel a set to find her mojo and hit the ball,” Eliassen said. Becky Nix closed out singles play with an east 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

Amy Ryan and Annette Carlson recovered from a slow start at No. 1 doubles to win 6-3, 6-2.  “These two got off to a slow start and found themselves down a couple of games, but got their act together and pulled out the win,” Eliassen said.

In No. 2 doubles, Katelynn Houger and Mary Lewan also had a relatively easy 6-1, 6-1 win.

Medical Lake participated over the weekend in the Inland Empire Tournament, finishing 28th out of 40 teams. Becky Nix and John Pineda rallied from a Friday loss to best Lind/Ritzville/Sprague for seventh/eighth place in mixed doubles.
