Several Cheney FBLA club members advance to state competition

The Cheney High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club took part in the Washington State Business Leader conference this past weekend, April 25-27, in Spokane. Over 1,500 students from around the state attended.

CHS club members and the club received numerous awards and recognition. As a chapter, the high school was recognized as a Gold Seal chapter and the second largest chapter in the eastern region.

Receiving individual recognition was Austin Mitchell, Ash Hall, Jackson Spencer, Jessica Kumar, Hayden Gerstenkorn and Sarah Oakes for completing a Business Achievement Awards project and earning Future Business Leader of America status, something only nine other people in the state completed.

In competition, Cheney had 46 students attend the conference. At the awards ceremony 23 different students placed top five in state 26 times with 13 students placing first or second and earning automatic entry to the FBLA national conference to be held June 27-30 in Anaheim, Calif. Cheney’s placing 26 times was the third highest amount of any school in the state.
