Schools show off robots at FIRST

Frisbees flew and robots climbed at the FIRST Robotics Region Competition last week, held at EWU’s Reese Court Pavilion.

Cheney and Medical Lake high schools sent their creations to battle with other schools from around the world. The winner moved on to the championship competition in St. Louis, Mo. later this month, April 24-27.

Teams were staged in the pit, located in the indoor tennis courts of the facility. There, they could make modifications to their robot and have a home base of sorts for the day. Various schools decorated their pit areas, displaying their school colors.

Medical Lake, a rookie in this year’s event, took home the Highest Seeded Rookie award for 19th place and finished with a 6-5 record. Cheney had a 3-8 record, finishing in 36th place.
