Wegner gets pair of softball wins

Kelby Wegner pitched two complete games, 13 innings in all, and collected a pair of wins last Saturday as the Medical Lake girls’ softball team scored a pair of Northeast A League victories, 11-2 and 16-5 over Newport.

Wegner gave up six hits in the opener and got offensive support from younger sister Maleela who contributed a pair of hits, including a triple. Darby Evans also had a pair of hits. Kayla Pruitt had a double in a game where the Cards scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings for insurance runs.

In the second game Medical Lake broke open a tight 4-3 contest scoring six runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to pull away from the Grizzlies. Faith Keister and Hailey Cheevers each had three hits to lead the offensive charge. Keister’s totals included a double. Kelby Wegner, Maleeka Wegner, Evans and Becky Troutt each had a pair of hits with Troutt’s effort also including a double.


No other details or statistics were available from these games.

Medical Lake played a pair of NEA games this week, Tuesday and Wednesday at home versus Freeman and Kettle Falls before spring break. They resume play Saturday, April 6 at home with the doubleheader versus Freeman.
