Five Cards crack top-10 at Richland meet


The Medical Lake track team will be in Colville Saturday, March 23 to compete in the Ezra Gordon Invite having just come off of competition last Saturday at the Richland High Jamboree where some Cardinal athletes turned in some impressive finishes as one of three 1A teams in the field of 10 teams.

The field included three teams each in the 4A and 3A classifications along with 2A Deer Park.

Medical Lake girls had four finishes in the top-10.

Sophomore Amarah Nicholson seems to have picked up where she left off in 2012 as she finished third in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1 minute, 5.4 seconds behind Alexandra Andrew of Richland with a 1:04.40.

Nicholson was seventh in the 100 in a time of 13.30 seconds as Kamiakin’s Kyra Brannan topped the field with a 12.66.

Libbie Klettke was sixth in the discus with a throw of 89 feet, 4 inches with Nyirenda Ross was sixth at 76-6. Kamiakin’s Elisa Grandemanage finished first at 118-10.

Zeb Klemke turned a 10 minute, 16.97 second time in the 3,200-meters, good for seventh. Deer Park’s Daniel Amann was first in a time of 9:39.38.

Elijah Farman was eighth in the javelin with a distance of 140 feet even. He and Klemke were the only two boys’ competitors to crack the top-10. Luke Hilmes of Mead was No. 1 with a throw of 171-1.

After competing in Colville the Cardinals will be off for spring break and resume competition April 10 at Freeman for their first Northeast A League meet which also features Newport.
