Medical Lake will send 15 wrestlers to the Bi-District championships this Saturday in Chelan.

The Cardinals’ Nick Reed at 106-pounds and 138-pound Anton King each earned individual weight titles as they finished fourth in competition between Northeast A League teams last Saturday at Medical Lake.

Additionally, Ricky Petersen was runner-up at 132 pounds for Medical Lake, which earned 164 points. Freeman’s 245 topped the standings.

“I thought we wrestled well, we had 19 wrestlers at districts and 15 placed in the top six,” Medical Lake head coach Sam Petersen said. “Of the 19 only two were seniors.”

Three Cardinals finished third including Zeb Klemke (120), Ian O’Brien (220) and William Kearney (285) and six more, Shane Connors (113), Justin Brundage (132), Mathew Peterson (138), Tyler Loutzenhise (145), Roman Kissack (170) and Christian Keole (195).

Reed advanced to his title match with a first-round bye, followed by a win over Justin Volking from Kettle Falls. He pinned Jonathan Flynn of Lakeside in just 41 seconds in the championship.

King also won by a pin over Dustin Crowell of Chewelah in 3 minutes, 47 seconds after topping Joey Allen from Riverside in the semifinals and Mason Macleit from Freeman in his opening match.

Petersen lost 4-2 in his championship round to Billy Sims of Freeman after gaining the finals when Austin Krogh had to withdraw in the semis due to injury.

Nathan Braswell (106), Erik Penn(160) and Boaz Guidry (182) were sixth place finishers and also advance.

“We will have a strong group going to bi-districts and a strong group returning next year,” Petersen said. “Hopefully we will have a good week of practice and wrestle well on Saturday.”

Right now Petersen said everyone is healthy. “We always wish a couple of them would have won a few of the close matches last Saturday.”
