Medical Lake wrestlers saw their five-match win streak come to an end last Thursday in a 46-36 defeat at Chewelah in the final Northeast A League contest of the season.

The Cardinals, who got pins from Zeb Klemke at 120-pounds, Anton King (138) and Tyler Loutzenhiser at 145 pounds finished with a 3-3 record, fourth in the NEA and were 5-5 overall in dual meets.

Medical Lake will host the district tournament this Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m.

“Yes, we had our chances,” Cardinals head coach Sam Petersen said.

“We were ahead 7-0 at 113 pounds and got pinned, tied 2-2 at 152 and got pinned,” Petersen said of the start of a string of six straight losses.  “The Chewelah kids fought off their backs and we didn’t.”

Petersen singled out a handful of wresdtlers.”Anton wrestled really well, Zeb wrestled really well. “So our better wrestlers are staying on track.”

He cautioned, however, “Some of the other ones need to pick up their effort or it will be a short postseason.”
