Cub Scouts help to serve others in Medical Lake

Medical Lake Cub Scout Pack 307 helped local children with a good deed Thursday, Dec. 27 at the Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Scouts took time out of their winter break to deliver toys, books, crayons, coloring books and puzzles to children at the hospital. The boys wanted to “turn a good deed,” parent Toni Turner said.

To gather the toys, the Scouts cleaned out their closets, asked friends and family and some even bought new toys to give to the children. Scoutmaster Kathy VanAken, wanted to get the kids out into the community, performing duties that live up to Cub Scout values like compassion, resourcefulness and responsibility. She wanted the Scouts to know how helping others is a huge accomplishment.

It takes parents who can volunteer their time to make the Pack run. Cub Scout Pack 307 is always seeking new members to join in on activities and community service projects.

The Pack’s annual Pinewood Derby takes place in March and will include an open class so that parents and children can observe some of the activities that take place throughout the year. If a child has an interest in scouting and wishes to join, contact Ross Niblock at 263-9025 for more information.
