Medical Lake’s girls’ basketball team never was able to recover from its slow start last Friday in their opening game of Northeast A League play, humbled by a 49-25 loss at Riverside.

The week opened with a 41-32 non-league loss to Great Northern League Colville last Tuesday.

The Rams (1-0 NEA, 5-1 overall) jumped out to a fast start by outscoring the Cardinals (0-1, 3-3) s17-8 in the first period. They ramped up the defensive pressure in the second quarter outscoring ML 11-3 to lead 28-11 at the break.

Sabrina Earle led Medical Lake with eight points.

After trailing just 7-6 after the opening period, Colville (4-3) rolled to a 14-5 second quarter edge to lead 21-11 at the half. The Cardinals 16-11 advantage in the final quarter closed the early gap, but not enough.

Earle once again led her team in scoring with nine points. Darby Evans added six and Cassidy Hagel five.

Medical Lake is home versus Freeman Friday, Dec. 21 at 5:45 p.m. in their final game before the Christmas break. They return to action Dec. 28-29 at the West Valley Tournament.
