Medical Lake wrestlers send thin team to Ephrata

Nick Reed at 106-pounds and 220-pounder Christian Koele each finished third as Medical Lake took a bare-bones team to last Saturday’s Ephrata Invitational.

“We did not have our full varsity, some were taking their ACT tests and others were hurt,” head coach Sam Petersen said.

Both Reed and Koele finished with 2-1 records. Reed’s wins came by pins while Koele got a pin and an 11-2 major decision.

Ricky Petersen at 138 and Taylor Dormaier at 152 pounds each finished fourth, winning their first round matches by pins before falling in their final two rounds.

Tristin Keith, a 120-pounder and heavyweight William Kearney were fifth. Keith lost his opening round by a pin but rallied to win his final two. Kearney also lost his opening bout before scoring a pair of pins against his last two opponents.

Rounding out the competition were 145-pound Tyler Loutzenhiser and heavyweight Zach Williams, both finishing sixth with Loutzenhiser getting a pin in his middle match while Williams got a pin in his second bout before losing to teammate Kearney.

The Cardinals are at home tonight (Dec. 13) at 7 p.m. in their Northeast A League opening match versus Riverside and then hit the road Saturday for a tournament in Cashmere.
