Igbinoba scores 30 to lead Blackhawk boys past Freeman 72-66

Senior guard/forward Eric Igbinoba had a career night with 30 points while sophomore Keenan Williams dominated the rebounding glass as the Cheney Blackhawks got a little salve for their wounds from two straight losses with a 72-46 drubbing of visiting Freeman last Friday.

The Blackhawks held the Northeast A Scotties to just one point in the first quarter, building a 33-17 halftime lead behind Igbinoba’s 15 points and were never seriously threatened after that. The senior added 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead all scorers while Williams added 15 points to go with 15 rebounds.

Saturday the Blackhawks took to the road again against another 1A team, Cashmere, falling behind early in the 66-52 loss to the Bulldogs who finished fifth at last year’s state tournament. Seniors Theo Petropoulos and Najib Rehman led the Blackhawks in scoring with 12 each while senior Austin Harding added 11. Williams grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Blackhawks, 2-3, get a little time to work on aspects of their game while also getting healthy, being in the midst of an 11-day layoff before hosting Northeast A Lakeside Dec. 19.
