Alta Tindall


Alta Tindall passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Dec. 6. Alta was born in Butte, Mont. Dec. 28, 1914 to parents Daniel and Marie Sullivan.

Alta was the youngest of nine children and graduated from Butte High School. She went on to marry James (Jim) Tindall in 1940 and spent three years living out of Potrerillos Chile, South America, where her husband was employed as a chemist in a mining camp. James and Alta had four children, and James’ career as school teacher, principal and superintendent took them to live in various small towns in rural Montana.

After his retirement, Alta and James moved to Bozeman, Mont. where they lived for several years. Alta later moved to Cheney, Wash. where she has lived with her daughter Paula for the last 16 years.

She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed participating in Women’s Club, Bridge Club and the Bozeman and Cheney Senior Centers. Alta will be missed for her sense of humor and her many kindnesses.

She was preceded in death by her husband James in 1983 and is survived by her four children: Jerry Tindall (Lynn) of Summerfield, Fla, Fred Tindall (Dotty) of Welcome, Minn., Paula Tindall of Cheney and Harriet Finnegan (Mike) of North Bend, Wash.; five grandchildren: Cathy Shaw (Mark) of Dublin, Ohio, Sarah Kyle (Ken) of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Michael Tindall (Darcy) of Fremont, Ohio, Lizzie Finnegan of Venice, Calif., and Rachel Finnegan of Bozeman and seven great grandchildren: Ethan, Lauren and David Shaw; Carter, Danielle and Jaxon Kyle and Andrew Tindall.

The family wishes to express its great appreciation to friend and caregiver Karen Young and to the workers of Family Home Care and Hospice of Spokane who took such wonderful care of her to the end. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 460 N. Fifth St. in Cheney. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 2253, Spokane, WA 99210-2253 or Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210-2115.
