Retha Lucas

Retha Lucas away peacefully Oct. 26, 2012 in Four Lakes, Wash. at the age of 91. She was born to Fay and Hollis Dickerson March 23, 1921 in Ewan, Wash. She was third in line of seven children.

During WWII she worked at Fairchild Air Force Base and during this time she met and married James Lucas. When James returned from the war they settled on a small farm outside of Cheney where she lived for the past 64 years. Her husband worked construction and she worked the farm and raised four children. When their youngest child entered high school she went to work for Edgett Brothers Hardware and later got a job at Eastern Washington University as a custodian in the residence halls.

She is survived by her daughters; Sue Moneypenny and Sally Morrissey. Son; Paul Lucas. Daughter-in-laws; Sandi and Melinda. Sons-in-laws; Dale and Mike. Brother; Homer Dickerson and his wife Joanne. Brother-in-law; Lindy Lucas and his wife Beverly. Sister-in-law; Betty. Ten grandchildren; Dawniel Ellis, Lanny Lucas, Kim Roullier, Zachary Gbur, Shelly Moneypenny, Josh Lucas, Matt Lucas, Mike Morrissey, Brian Morrissey, Samantha Morrissey. Nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. 


Retha was preceded in death by her husband James, son Daniel, sisters June, Joyce and Yvonne and brother Larry. Ret/mom/grandma was an amazing woman who impacted many lives. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Her family would like to offer special thanks to owner Tami Brown and the staff of Seniors in Motion for their loving care of mom.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Cheney Funeral Chapel followed by a reception at Cheney Community Church, 1307 Third St. Private family interment will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Cheney Funeral Chapel, Cheney.
