Cheney water main leaks near apartment complex

Cheney water crews were hard at work Wednesday, Sept. 5, looking to access a leaking water main that sent water streaming down the driveway of the Willow Wood apartment complex at 111 College Hill Road.

The city was notified around 8:20 a.m. and crews were still working to access the broken pipe early Wednesday afternoon. Public Works director Todd Ableman said the pipe that leaked was around 40 years old, and the leak was likely caused by age deterioration combined with abrasion from rocks moving over the outside of the pipe.

Water service was partially shut down for customers in the area, but the repair was completed and water was returned to full power by the end of the day, he said.
