Citing the need to close a $450,000 budget deficit, the Cheney City Council, by a slim 4-3 vote, approved a 7 percent increase in city taxes on water, sewer and solid waste. The increase would cost the average homeowner $100-$150 per year.
Medical Lake had submitted proposals to the Washington State Department of Transportation for nearly $600,000 in improvements for area roads.
About 40 community members, EWU students and employees took advantage of the opportunity to have a sneak peek at the new Brewster Hall in downtown Cheney.
