Cheney's American Legion A team wrapped up its season last week with three losses in its final four games, all coming against top tier competition in the Spokane American Legion A Southern Division.

The Summer Hawks' lone win came in a July 2 doubleheader with eventual Southern Division champion, a 6-4 game one win over the 16-2 Titans. Cheney came close in game two, eventually falling 3-2.

In the finale July 3 at third-place Gonzaga Prep the Summer Hawks lost 14-0 in five innings to the Bullpups, managing just two hits. In the nightcap Cheney overcame an early 6-2 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the third, getting RBI singles from Nick Kowalski, Jake Baker and Cameron Marchand, with Connor Pratt driving in a run on a fielder's choice and Casey Phelps a run on an error when the Bullpups second baseman misjudged a pop fly.

G-Prep responded with three runs in the fourth to retake the lead at 9-8, but Cheney got that back and then some in their half of the inning, scoring six runs with the big blow coming on Marchand's 3 RBI double to the fence in left. But in the fifth the wheels came off the Summer Hawks wagon as G-Prep scored 11 runs, helped by four bases loaded walks and a pair of 2 RBI doubles en route to the 22-14 win. Cheney managed 10 hits in the game while the Bullpups had 12.

Cheney finished its season with a 5-11 mark, eighth place in the 10-team Southern Division. The top four teams advanced to playoff competition this week, with University heading the list followed by Rathdrum (12-6), G-Prep (12-6) and East Valley (11-7).
