FROM NEWS SERVICE REPORTS

Eastern Washington University and 700 ESPN and the KXLY Radio Group have reached a two-year extension on their radio agreement to have all home and away EWU football and men's basketball games broadcast live on 700 ESPN.

The original three-year agreement was inked in 2010, and the extension will have Eastern games on 700 ESPN through the 2014-15 school year. The agreement was mutually announced last Friday, July 6 by Eastern athletic director Bill Chaves and KXLY Radio Group vice-president and general manager Brian Paul.

As part of the extension, Larry Weir returns as the men's basketball play-by-play voice of Eastern basketball. Weir is back for his 22nd season as the voice of the Eagles in football and his 20th calling men's basketball for the Eagles from 1991-2009.

Dennis Patchin has stepped down from the position he's held for two years butthe 700 ESPN staff will have a greater presence at football games through an additional one-hour tailgate show and as sideline reporters at home games.

“We have enjoyed our relationship with Eastern Washington University and the excitement they have brought to our station in the past two years,” Paul said. “Extending our agreement with the Eagles was great for us, and we are thankful that Eastern Washington feels the same.

“Extending our agreement with 700 ESPN is very exciting for Eastern Athletics as we look forward to a very long relationship with them,” Chaves said. “Fortunately we are able to welcome back Larry to that capacity and there is no doubt he will do a tremendous job in that role again.”
