Ryan Gray earns nice payday in Reno, ready to ride ‘Cowboy Christmas'

Cheney's Ryan Gray scored an 87-point win in the final go-round, winning $7,700 last Saturday night in bareback competition at the Reno Rodeo.

In the process, Gray shot up the bareback riding standings from 31st to 18th just as the schedule enters the time of the year called “Cowboy Christmas.” That's a time where 31 rodeos begin and/or end during the week of July 1-7 and offer total prize money of some $3.3 million.

Gray will be fully a part of the craziness as he rides in 14 rodeos in 10 days, including tonight (June 28) in Prescott, Ariz. Yes, Gray will actually ride in two rodeos in one day on two different occasions. That started yesterday (June 27) at the Ponoka, Alberta Stampede and Airdrie, Alberta. He will do it again in Livingston and Red Lodge, Montana, July 4.

This time of year is crucial for cowboys who are working their way to the year-end Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
