Lost luggage doesn't deter Dent, Gray at West of Pecos Rodeo
FROM NEWS SERVICE REPORTS
In life - and rodeo - it never hurts to have a few friends. Just ask Steven Dent about that.
At the West of the Pecos Rodeo June 30 Dent won the bareback title with a 91-point ride using borrowed rigging, gloves and chaps. Ryan Gray tied for seventh,
Dent and traveling partner Gray had their luggage – including all their riding gear – misdirected out of Denver International Airport.
Gray called his former Odessa College coach Jim Watkins, who offered to pick up the cowboys at the airport and loan them his car. Gray's wife Lacy was an hour away from their home in Petersburg, Texas, when she got the help call, rushed home to grab the rigging and met the guys on the road in Seminole, Texas.
“She was a savior,” Gray told the Odessa American. “She even brought extra tape and other things that we weren't thinking about.”
They made the pick up at about 4:30 p.m. and then hustled down the road to Buck Jackson Arena, making it just before the start of the bareback riding competition.
