Hot 3-point shooter Jordan Hickert signs with Eastern

FROM NEWS SERVICE REPORTS

Jordan Hickert, one of the best junior college 3-point shooters in the nation during the 2010-11 season, has signed a letter of intent to attend Eastern Washington University and play basketball, new head coach Jim Hayford announced this past Tuesday.

Formerly from Bunbury in Western Australia, Hickert made 56-of-130 3-point attempts this past season for Neosho County Junior College in Chanute, Kansas. A 6-foot-9-inch, 225-pound forward, his 43.1 percent shooting accuracy from the 3-point arc ranked 17th among all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I players. As a team, Neosho made 43 percent of its treys to rank fourth nationally and first in the Jayhawk Conference.

“Jordan gives us great size with tremendous outside shooting from the post position,” Hayford said. “He made a high percentage from the 3-point stripe in one of the toughest junior college leagues in the country. And he was a starter on two winning teams at Neosho.”

In the 2010-11 season, Hickert averaged 9.6 points on 47.1 percent shooting overall from the field (104-of-221). He made 71.7 percent of his free throws (33-of-46) and also averaged 7.8 rebounds per game to rank sixth in NJCAA Region VI. As a freshman, Hickert averaged 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Hickert is a 2007 graduate of Bunbury Senior High School. While in Australia, he was selected to play on the Western Australia Country team that played in the U-18 Nationals.

“His play on the Western Australian team showed that he competed quite favorably with other Australian players who have had success at the Division I level,” Hayford said.

Hickert's father, Daniel Hickert, played in the 1977-78 season for Kansas State.

On May 10 Hayford announced the signing of Collin Chiverton, a 6-foot-6 forward out of City College of San Francisco.
