Cheney High FCCLA LifeSmarts team first at state

The Cheney High School FCCLA LifeSmarts team of Jacob Mager, Nash Springberry, James Borchers, David Leong, and Solomon Springberry took first place at the May 3 state competition after tallying the top score in the online Life Smarts competition.

LifeSmarts challenges students to gain real-world knowledge and quizzes them on consumer and marketplace know-how. The CHS team will compete at the national LifeSmarts competition in Hollywood, Calif.

FCCLA advisor Karlyn Urdahl said the students took the initiative to form their team, practice and compete online.

“This is a perfect example of, when given the opportunity, students will take the ball and run with it,” she said.

Urdahl said the team's trip to nationals would be funded in part by the WSECU and donations from local businesses and individuals.
