Cheney High School graduates and Blackhawks cross country standouts Arick Zachman and Daniel Issa competed in the annual East/West Senior All-Star Race, held July 19 at Seattle’s Magnusson Park. The top male and female cross-country runners from all five classifications take part in the competition.

Zachman finished seventh overall in the 59-runner field and third overall for the East team, covering the 5-kilometer course in a time of 16 minutes, 56 seconds, and scoring seven points for the East. Issa was just 4 seconds short of a team scoring placing, finishing 20th overall with a time of 17:37.

Gonzaga Prep’s Tate Kelly finished first overall with a time of 16:32, but the undermanned East team, while racing well, ended up losing to the West, 47-58.

Zachman was also one of several runners selected at the race as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship for his academic achievements, school activities, honors and other awards and running accomplishments.
