Also, Chet's Flowers now offers tux rentals

A new business has appeared in downtown Cheney.
The doors of Cheney Tech opened on Tuesday, Aug. 4, the second and newest computer support and service business in Cheney.
Owner Jason Alvarado said the primary function of his newest venture is offering service on personal computers and laptops having problems with upgrades, virus removal and reformatting. He can also do data backup recovery, which is salvaging information from a computer when the hard drive fails.
“Basically anything that goes wrong with your computer, I can take care of it,” he said.
Alvarado said he started on a new direction in his business because of demand. Until last week, there wasn't any kind of business like his in Cheney.
Cheney Tech is Alvarado's second business. It's actually a division of XeroOne Systems, which is his software development business that he was running from his home. Now that he has embarked on a customer service enterprise, he said he is going to run both out of his new downtown location.
“When I'm not fixing computers, I'll be building websites and writing software,” he said.
Alvarado has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Eastern Washington University. He is also civically active, serving on the Cheney Planning Commission since January 2008.
Cheney Tech is more hands on. Alvarado said in addition to hardware problems like worn parts and components he is also works on keyboards and mice. He does networking and website development and in-home service or will go to a business, and offers free delivery and pickup for residents in the city of Cheney.
He begins with a diagnostic for $15, which is credited toward a repair, if needed. Fees are by the hour and Cheney Tech is same day service, unless he has to order parts. He said the most common problems are with viruses and hardware failures.
Alvarado said he is working toward getting certified by manufacturers so he can handle warrantee issues also.
Cheney Tech is at 1008 First St. or call 235-TECH (8324) for rates. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Weekends are by appointment only.
Another downtown merchant is offering a new service. Chet's Flowers is now offering tuxedo rentals.
Becky Jeffries, who works at Chet's, said her mother, Joy Dahl, who owns and operates the floral business, added men's formal wear to their business to keep consumers in Cheney.
“This way, they don't have to go all the way to Spokane to get a tux,” Jeffries said.
Jim's Formal Wear is providing the Tuxedo rentals and prices range from $70 to $125 depending on the manufacturer. Studs and cuff links are extra. All top name brands and styles are available.
The staff at Chet's Flowers is being trained on proper fittings. Jeffries said orders and deliveries would be on the same day, likely Thursday. She said emergencies could be averted if people renting a tux come in for a fitting to ensure a proper fit a few days before going to their event.
