Cheney Camp Fire launches back to school drive

Area Camp Fire members are launching the 16th annual “Kids Helping Kids Back to School” school supply drive this coming weekend.

Cheney Camp Fire members and volunteers will have collection barrels set up at Ben Franklin on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 9, from noon to 6 p.m. Camp Fire will have barrels set up at Ben Franklin on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16, also at the same times.

Camp Fire is looking for donations of school supplies, which will be distributed to Cheney-area students through Cheney Outreach Center. Supplies include pencils and pens, rulers, boxes of crayons, packages of paper, erasers, notebooks, folders and backpacks.

The program helps kids in two ways. It helps foster involvement and empowerment in Camp Fire members to meet the needs of their peers in the community, and also helps provide needed school supplies to over 3,000 children in the Spokane County.
