Jenna Donnerberg – a 5-foot-7 senior “defensive specialist” for the Cheney Blackhawks – has announced she will play volleyball this fall for Walla Walla Community College.

Donnerberg, who also maintains a 3.62 grade pint average and has been on the All-Academic team every season she has played, is the captain of the Hawks squad.

Tim Toon, coach for WWCC, said he is pleased that Donnerberg (who also considered Blue Mountain Community College and Western Washington University) has chosen to play for him in Walla Walla: “Jenna is a ball-control monster. Her serve receive and defense are exceptional, and she has a very tough jump serve.”

Last season, the WWCC Warriors took third in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Championships.

In 2005, the team finished in first place in the NWAACC and has never dropped out of the top five. The team has an 80 percent win record and 112-29 overall.

While the team had been locking in for the 2007 season, Toon said he was glad to make room for Donnerberg.

“I thought I was done with my recruiting for next year's team, but realized late in the process that we needed more back row help,” Toon said.

“Jenna will fill that need very nicely.”

Donnerberg has been twice named All-Conference in volleyball and team Most Valuable Player.

She is also an All-Conference tennis player.

Donnerberg said she wants to play for WWCC because she likes the Warriors' record and coach/team dynamic.
