The Cheney girls tennis team finished its mixed inaugural Great Northern League season last week with mixed results, besting Riverside 7-0 but falling 5-2 to Deer Park in a make-up contest.

Against the Rams on May 9, No. 1 Cheney singles player Jenna Donnerberg continued her hot streak with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sierra Irvine.

At No. 2 singles, Kaci Rexilius also found success in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Sam Crowe.

Amy Knox had a battle with Riverside's Mikayla Grant at No. 3 singles, but won 6-4, 7-6. But Missy Gill had no trouble at No. 4 singles, blanking Riverside's Paige Beerbohm 6-0, 6-0.

In No. 1 doubles, Cheney's team of Stephanie Wethington and Katie Grigel bested Riverside's squad of Molly Beerbohm and Rianna McDonald 6-1, 7-5.

The No. 2 doubles match-up of Krista Meyer and Bridget Hammas had a long afternoon against Rams Jennifer Hunt and Jessica Hogue, but won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

The same held true at No. 3 doubles, as Chrystal Bailey and Briana Harris found 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 success against Kamie McCool and Breanna Shaver of Riverside.

The Lady Hawks didn't see the same results when they hosted Deer Park the following afternoon, however. Donnerberg did manage to get a win for Cheney, but it wasn't easy, as Madeline Baydo finally fell 6-4, 7-5.

Deer Park's Dominique Swenson and Naomi Willis got the best of Cheney's No. 1 pairing of Hammas and Brittney Gallagher, as the Hawks lost 2-6, 0-6.

On Friday and Saturday, Cheney's girls head to Clarkston for district play.

The top three singles and doubles teams there will get to play in Yakima at state the next weekend.
