At an August study session, staff proposed Ordinance 878, which amends the city’s municipal codes “Water System” and “Sanitary Sewer System,” and creates a new section “Utility Services.” The ordinance will allow only property owners to set up utility accounts.     CHS cross country annual Turkey Trot registration opens The Cheney High School cross country team’s ninth annual Turkey Trot takes place Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. at the high school.     At its Nov. 14 study session, the Airway Heights City Council moved several items forward to its next meeting. One was an amendment of public defender professional service contract with Maurer Law. The amendment proposes to increase the contract from $4,000 to $4,833 per month.     The 2017 budget wasn’t the only item on the Cheney City Council’s Nov. 8 agenda. The council approved a resolution accepting a public defense grant from the Washington State Office of Public Defense, money that can be used to help with services such as additional attorneys to reduce public defense caseloads, investigative and expert services for public defense cases and interpreter services for attorney-client meetings.
