    PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Nov 7, 2013

The glimmer of good news that came out of Medical Lake's final regular season football game was that the Cardinals became the first team all season to take a lead on Freeman. The bad news was that it seemed to get the regular-season Northeast A League undefeated champion Scotties riled up and they rolled to a 49-7 win. "Basically we kicked over a beehive and got 'em mad," Medical Lake head coach Wes Hobbs said as he watched his team finish 4-4 overall and 3-3 in NEA play headi...

The Lady Hawks kept battling, and cut Pullman’s lead in half late in the game when Jasmine McCauley won a ball...

    John McCallum, Editor|Updated Nov 7, 2013

It’s “wait until next year” for the Cheney High football when it comes to postseason play. Needing a win at Colville and some help from West Valley against Pullman, the Blackhawks got neither. The Eagles fell to the Greyhounds in double overtime, setting up a showdown this Friday with Colville for the No. 2 and final playoff berth while Cheney’s rally came up short in a 19-13 loss to the Indians. “Everybody played hard,” head coach Jason Williams said. “It was just one of those games.” Injuries and illness helped sideline...

    John McCallum, Editor|Updated Nov 7, 2013

Cheney's boys and girls cross country teams proved the old axiom that "it's not how you start but how you finish," might need a little tweaking. For the Blackhawks to make return trips to 2A state competition, it was all about starting and finishing. Both Cheney squads came out aggressive, raced hard and finished strong in earning second-place finishes in District 7 competition last Saturday at Plantes Ferry State Park, pulling a couple of upsets in qualifying once again for...

When the Eastern Washington University Eagles used a second half surge to pull away from, and ultimately beat Idaho State 55-34 last Saturday in Pocatello, the win allowed all the luster to remain for this week’s home game and Big Sky Conference showdown with Montana State. The game at sold-out Roos Field kicks off at 12:05 p.m. and will decide who exits Cheney with the top spot in the conference. Both the No. 3 Eagles and fourth-ranked Bobcats are 5-0 in Big Sky play and 7-2...

If one of his Medical Lake teams emerge from their scramble over the 5,000 meters that make up the course at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco and claim a state cross country championships Saturday, Gene Blankenship will be able to cross a big item off his “To-Do” list. PAUL DELANEY, Staff Reporter|Updated Nov 7, 2013

Some big plays by special teams and another drive-stopping interception were the turning points Eastern Washington needed to finally shake the Idaho State Bengals last Saturday in the Eagles’ 55-34 Big Sky Conference football win at Holt Arena. Trailing the Bengals (1-5 Big Sky, 3-6 all games) 24-17 after Luke Austin’s 49-yard touchdown catch from Justin Arias with 5 minutes, 5 seconds to play in the first half, a Shaquille Hill 80-yard kickoff return helped ignite a 31-3 run...
