Spokane County Fire District 10, the Airway Heights Fire Department and the Medical Lake Fire Department are looking to perform a cooperative services assessment to find better ways of working together. Cheney High School senior MacKenna Jones will unveil her Girl Scout Gold Award project at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake this weekend. Medical Lake’s biannual Healthy Youth Survey yielded mixed results during a report at the Medical Lake School District board of directors meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 22. Cheney School District’s headcount enrollment remained flat through the first two months of the 2013-2014 school year, while full-time equivalent students increased by almost 14. A total of 4,196 students occupy desks and lockers within the district in October, a decrease of two students over beginning of the year numbers in September. When it comes to the coming year for Cheney’s Parks and Recreation, the concerns might not be budgetary, but administrative. The biggest change in 2014 is the departure of Paul Simmons, Parks and Recreation director since the department was re-established in 2004 after citizen approval of a taxing measure the previous year.
